Dear Precious Reader,
I recently read my friend Jay’s post on Lazy Summer Days in which he reduced his posting schedule for the summer. He explains why:
Because I’ve been out enjoying life instead of sitting on the computer for hours upon hours. My daughter is here. I’m loving the time with her. Swimming. Playing together. Hanging out in bookstores together. Going to museums. Going to the aquarium. Going to Six-Flags. Enjoying life…enjoying the great outdoors as much as possible. Doing fun stuff. Enjoying the present moment as much as possible. You know…being a dad. That’s what’s important to me.
I feel the same as Jay. My son, Ben, is home from college for the summer and our family is together again. Also, I enjoy the warmth and beauty of the outdoors during summer. I want to have more summer fun and spend less time writing.
I try hard to write posts that help you. Only you can decide if I’m succeeding, but I want to maintain the level of quality and usefulness that I believe my posts provide. I don’t want to waste your time with filler or fluff posts just to meet some artificial posting quota.
So, I want to maintain this blog’s quality, but I don’t want to spend as much time writing. Something has to give and that something is the number of posts I’m writing. For the rest of the summer, I’ll only post once every week or two. I hope you understand.
If you live someplace warm, I hope you’ll also have more summer fun. Life is too short to spend too much time in front of the computer.
Sincerely,
Roger

Welcome to the revolution, Roger!
I’m glad that you’re taking some time for yourself and your family. It’s so important, nothing else even comes close. Enjoy the extra time, my friend!
Good for you, Roger! You know that I support you… I was already a huge fan of Jay’s Lazy Summer Days. I was just telling Jay on twitter that he is quickly becoming that crazy dancing guy that started a movement. I’m all for doing less and playing more.
I know you will have a wonderful, fun, enjoyable summer with Ben! It doesn’t get any better than that, does it?
Dear Roger, i do agree with u but to speak the truth we all r going to miss a lot your great n helpful posts.
regards
Manish
Hi Roger,
Good for you! Do what feels right to you and everything will be awesome. I live by that belief and it has served me well. Now if only we can have more sunshine. I am getting tired of the constant clouds and rain in our area. I am starting to think we all need to do a sundance!
@Jay: Thanks for being the first in our little group! You paved the way and made it easier for me.
@Lisis: Thanks for understanding! As you say, it really doesn’t get any better.
@Manish: Thank you for saying so. It means a lot to me that you value my posts.
@Nadia: Yep…we definitely need more sun, but at least it is
really hotpleasantly warm.Great post, Roger! I think we all could take advice from you and Jay and spend more time outdoors this summer…Now if only I didn’t have this pesky job situation…
Positively Present (aka Dani),
Thanks! Jay has the right idea. I wish I could help you with your job situation.
Like Nadia said, you gotta do what feels right. I intend to soak up as much summer as I can too, but I have no children and few other commitments outside of my blog. Summertime with family is priceless, enjoy.
Recognizing what you feel is important and going after it is terrific. Enjoy!
Roger, I’m glad for you and Jay both. I too am spending more time living. I live 70 miles from a beach and I went for the first time in over a year last weekend. I loved it and am committed to going a lot in the future.
I think I can maintain some posting frequency and still live so I’m going to give it a shot. Good luck and HAVE FUN
@Suzanne: Thanks! I’m enjoying it already.
@Stephen: Good for you! Make sure you hit the beach a few more times this summer. There is nothing like watching the waves roll in. I really enjoy your blog so I’m glad you can maintain your posting schedule.
This seems to be a recurring theme with many different bloggers. It’s a very good approach to blogging. I begin each of blogs with the idea that I will only post 2 to 3 times a week.
Bakari,
Welcome!
I guess it must be the Summer season. Also, I think many readers spend less time reading blogs in the Summer.
Roger,
I think this is a great decision. I’m posting less to because of work and personal reasons, and am quite happy that I run my blog and not vice versa!
I’m so glad for you inn this decision. And I love the trend I am seeing right now in our blogging community to do this very thing: take time off, take time away, live a little. You will come back refreshed and with so much more to share with us. You’re filling up the proverbial depleted gas tank right now. Enjoy your summer!
I just started my blog, so I will greatfully take this as good role-modeling for us zealous newbies!
@Daphne: I think all of us fellow bloggers have to be careful we don’t burn out.
@Chania: Good point! In order to have useful things to write about, you have to have a life outside the blog.
@Lori: Welcome! Yep…you have to pace yourself. Of course, one person’s walking is another persons slow jog. The pace each person can write comfortable is different.
I think that your decision to ‘enjoy’ life will ultimately contribute to your posts. Have fun!
Hi Roger,
It’s great you are not going to write for the sake of writing. That’s why you write great stuff.Enjoy the life! And write when it comes to you.
Have a great summer Fun !!!
@Brian: That is my hope.
@Vikum: Thank you for the kind words! I hope you have a great summer as well.
